Button-UP and Burn!

Flame button sketch A friend and follow artist asked me recently to come up with some designs for button patterns for her fabulous cache of Orlean Fine Tapestry products. Or course I jumped on it. The chance to design for a medium that I’ve never worked with before intrigued me. And buttons?…..hello, how fun is that.

After reviewing her current collection I wanted to give her some sketches with a little bit of an edge.  The first thing that popped into my head naturally, was FLAMES.  She must have agreed because the “flames” was the first sketch I got back from her converted in her pattern software. Flame button pattern

The patterns are different from the ones I work with in my sporadic-so-called-knitting hobby.  I think there’s going to be a learning curve on how to make the shapes work within the constraints of the needlepoint grid. Either way, I’m afraid that when we finish the button project  I’ll have myself a new hobby….  Yikes.
